Kidsgrove Station Project

Kidsgrove station is in the Staffordshire County Council local authority area. Annual footfall is 230,266 (based on Office of Rail and Road station usage). As well as the hourly East Midlands Trains Crewe-Stoke-Derby service, the station is also served by Northern (direct service to Manchester Piccadilly and Stoke-on-Trent) and London Midland, who provide an hourly semi-fast service to Crewe, Stafford, Stoke-on-Trent and London Euston.

Thanks to great support from Staffordshire County Council, Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council, East Midlands Trains and many organisations from the local community, we have been able to deliver a host of improvement projects at Kidsgrove station, including

  • Refurbishment and re-opening of Platform 2 waiting room (2010) – a project sponsored jointly by Network Rail and Staffordshire County Council
  • Customer Information Screens (CIS) with public address (as part of our multi-station bid to Access for All (2008))
  • Encouragement of station adoption by local residents, which has resulted in the re-establishment of the extensive station gardens on all 4 platforms, improved and maintained by the station volunteer team
  • Community involvement noticeboards to encourage more community support for the station
  • Community art projects to decorate the station, which have involved all Kidsgrove schools to create both murals and poster artwork. St Thomas Primary School Gardening Club also support maintenance of the planting displays
  • Securing £multi-million funding to transform Kidsgrove station for passengers with improved footbridge and lifts providing full access, new station building and transport interchange to be delivered by 2018 (see our News page for regular updates)
  • Opening of community-run café `A Spotter Tea` to provide drinks and snacks for passengers (open 0700-1000 weekdays and 0800-1200 Saturdays)
