Kidsgrove Volunteers

Awards won due to improvements made at the station through community rail include:

East Midlands Trains Best Small Station award (2011)

East Midlands Trains Community Partnership Station award – Runner Up (2011)

ACoRP Community Rail Awards – Runner Up, Best Station Adoption Group (2011)

East Midlands Trains Community Partnership Station award (2014)

In 2013, the station volunteers were also awarded a Citizens’ Award by the local council.

The volunteers at Kidsgrove have the largest challenge of any community rail station, with a total of 4 platforms to garden and maintain. The small team of prize-winning gardeners takes real pride in making Kidsgrove more attractive for passengers. In 2013, 100% of Kidsgrove passengers surveyed by the Partnership said Kidsgrove was now “A nicer place to travel by train” thanks to the work of the Kidsgrove volunteers.

The gardens include a fragrant rose garden on Platform 2, an impressive embankment garden and 25 baskets and planters all around the station.
