Uttoxeter station team sign up new volunteers

16th May 2015

Members of Uttoxeter station volunteer team joined with North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership on 15 May 2015 to promote station adoption.

The team set up an information display at a special Health and Wellbeing event at Uttoxeter Leisure Centre, arranged by Uttoxeter 50+ Forum, to illustrate the benefits of volunteering at stations on the North Staffordshire Line.

Visitors were impressed to see how Uttoxeter station has improved thanks to the team, especially the new Station Heritage Garden as a station gateway, which is now well established after being opened by Chair of Office Of Rail Regulation Anna Walker in June 2014. It was through recognition of this project that Uttoxeter station was the inaugural winner of East Midlands Trains Station Environment award that year.

Faye Lambert, Community Rail Officer, said: “The volunteers were proud to show the many visitors to the event their excellent work for the station and thanks to their efforts and enterprise we were able to show how volunteering is as much a social occupation as a gardening activity. We’re now looking forward to welcoming a number of new volunteers to the team to help sustain this fantastic work.”
