Partnership marks 10th anniversary

4th September 2015

To mark 10 years of achievements in community rail, North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership has awarded special anniversary recognition to the dedicated Crewe-Stoke-Derby route station volunteer teams and two very inspirational members of East Midlands Trains staff.

The awards were made at East Midlands Trains annual station adopters meeting in Derby Academy on 4 September.

Alsager station volunteers received the partnership’s Top Team Teamwork award for how they have developed ideas, involved the station in community events and created stunning gardens, making Alsager a station that the community is proud of.

The Kidsgrove team, including Travel Advisor Helen Gatensbury and community café A Spotter Tea host Kath Keeling, were presented with the Enterprise award for raising funds and additional support from the whole community and greatly improving the customer experience at this station.

The Pride of Longport award went to station volunteers Christine and Eric Shone and Dave Steele for creating pretty station gardens and promoting the station locally door to door through the CRP’s North Staffordshire Line Route Guide, which has helped boost footfall.

Volunteer Adrian Bond was awarded the Pride of Longton award for developing and tending the station gardens and making this station much more welcoming for passengers.

Blythe Bridge station volunteers, some of whom have been volunteers for 8 years, received the Dedicated team award for transforming the station environment.

A unique project, the Station Heritage Garden, developed in just a few months on part of a disused station platform, radically improving the station gateway, won the Uttoxeter station volunteers the Station Innovation award.

Tutbury & Hatton station volunteers have worked with a local learning disabilities project – BUDS - to create stunning station floral displays that have delivered "a charming station that provides a real welcome for passengers": they were awarded the Inspirational team award.

Two members of East Midlands Trains staff were also put in the spotlight for their outstanding contribution to North Staffordshire community rail and their exemplary customer service - Helen Gatensbury, Travel Advisor at Kidsgrove Station and Kevin Knight, Station Service Technician for the Crewe route.
