Reduction in EMR service at Alsager Station

7th September 2020

We were very sorry to hear that East Midlands Railway (EMR) has decided to suspend almost all its services for passengers at Alsager from 7th September. EMR has taken this decision to improve punctuality by missing out Alsager on their routes, except for the first and last train of the day in each direction until the end of December. EMR tells us that this is a temporary matter just during social distancing during Covid, as getting people onto and off the trains is taking longer at the moment.

At September's Alsager Town Council meeting, a councillors motion to lobby East Midlands Railway to reverse their decision to remove hourly trains stopping at Alsager from Monday to Saturday was unanimously supported. A public petition, to restore the hourly EMR services at Alsager has 1,354 signatures.

The North Staffs Community Rail Partnership is trying to get the stops reinstated. EMR has agreed to share with us their punctuality data every 4 weeks so we can monitor to see if it makes any difference with Crewe arrivals.
