These Are Our Journeys – an exciting new mural at Longton Station

18th March 2020

This mural depicts local people’s memories of train travel in witty style as text and pictures. Memories were collected from people in and around Longton Market on a cold November day, then turned into an eye catching display on a background of pots, plates and railway tracks – important local themes. The design was created by students at St Thomas More Catholic Academy in Longton, led by graphic artist, Adrian Riley. Can you spot the wedding rings of the couple who travel to Torquay every year to celebrate their anniversary? Or the oyster shells? Or the fruit dress on the washing line? The design invites visitors to revisit and discover new content each time.

The mural, which comprises 3 huge panels covering 3 arch fronts, was commissioned in response to a public consultation funded by East Midlands Railway, which asked the question: “How can Longton Station be improved?”

The mural was funded by the Community Rail Network and the North Staffs Community Rail Partnership.
