185th Anniversary of the first train though Crewe

Oct 2022

2022 marks the 185th anniversary of the first train to pass through Crewe. To celebrate the anniversary the North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership, the Crewe 2 Manchester Community Rail Partnership and Avanti West Coast put on a number of activities and events.

A special guided tour of the station took place in September led by Avanti West Coast Staff and featured information about the station’s history, including how it has changed through the years, the locomotive works, Royal Mail trains, the Crewe Arms Hotel and The Great Train Robbery!

In October A Big Draw Event was held at Crewe Heritage Centre where visitors were invited to take part in adding to a huge ‘Dot to Dot’ & ‘colour by number’ style drawing based on an image of one of the trains at the Crewe Heritage Centre created by Goostrey Station Artist, Debbie Goldsmith and in November Mike Wilmott gave a talk at Crewe Station on the history of social and technological development told through railway art which featured some wonderful railway poster advertising artwork from an array of artists and poster designers stretching over a 180 year period.
