Litter picking in the Longport Station Woodland

Litter picking in the Longport Station Woodland

Jun 2023

We held two litter picks at the Longport Station woodland this year, which is unfortunately very prone to fly tipping.  In January (in the snow!) we were very grateful to Middleport Matters and to Growthpoint for helping out; and to Dave Elborn, Dave Steele, Amarvir Singh and Matthew Daily-Hunt.  Jonathan Gullis MP and team also managed to join us for a couple of hours.  The second litter pick was held on 8 June and attended by volunteers from Network Rail and Thales.  A skip was filled on each occasion.  Special thanks to Mel from Thales managed to take a car load of tyres to Big Atom in Ellesmere Port which produces several products from tyres including children’s playground floors and equestrian chippings.  Participants were treated to an oatcake lunch at the excellent Oatbakers Ltd on Station Street.

In October we are planning a bird box building workshop on site delivered by Staffordshire Wildlife Trust to provide more habitats for wildlife. The Thales and Network Rail volunteers are keen to come back and help again.  Thank you very much for your support!
