Primary School Pupils Enjoy a Trip of the Train

May 2023

Pupils from Year 3 at St Mark’s Primary School in Stoke enjoyed a fun filled railway themed day out in May. Working with Avanti West Coast and Stoke Reads, part of the National Literacy Trust, we took 57 pupils on the Duck Bills Story Trail where they followed the map to find out lots of interesting facts about Stoke town and the railway. The trail finished at Stoke-on-Trent Station where pupils then caught a train to Stockport Station. For many of the children it was their first time on a train. At Stockport Station they took part in lots of fun station activities delivered by Avanti station staff including train dispatch, announcing the trains and visiting the signal box. The children had a fantastic day and from their feedback I think we may have some future train announcers and signallers!
