Stone – Canal & Market Town

Stone is perfect for a walk along the historic Trent and Mersey Canal and shopping in the pedestrianised High Street. It has a monthly Farmers’ Market and an annual Autumn Food & Drink Festival.
Pavements and canal towpath. Canal and rail crossings make this route not suitable for wheelchair users.

Walk Directions

Walk to the end of Station Approach then cross into Tunley Street continuing into Kings Avenue.

Turn right along Radford Street.

Continue along Radford Street (ignoring Christchurch Way on your left).

Turn left into High Street

At the end of the High Street turn right into Stafford Street.

After 1 minute turn right again into Crown Street. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing.

At the garage turn left into Trent Close. Cross Workhouse Bridge over the Trent and Mersey Canal.

Turn right and follow the towpath.

After about 10 minutes you will walk under a road bridge and past a lock.

After about another 5 mins cross the canal using the lock gates. Continue on footpath.

Use the foot bridge to cross the railway line.

Turn left to reach Stone Station.
